AUDIO LEVELS | Zoom H4N | Mixer | Input / Output

In this post i will write my basic understanding of Audio Levels and the links that helps me to understand what is happening.

You have 3 sources of audio signals. Each signals have different voltage. Without entering in science...

Mic signal - Needs less voltage.
Line signal - Needs more voltage.
Speakers signal - Needs way more voltage.

So, ultra-simplifying. 

If you have your recorder like the Zoom H4N you have your XLR Inputs (Microphone) and your Line inputs. If you want to plug your H4N from an speaker output, you will need to reduce the level of the audio signal. (note we are talking of the level, the signal, the voltage, not of the volume when you are monitoring the audio). So you will need something like the Shure A15LA.

Which is why you need an attenuator of some kind to prevent it. Other recorders allow for a line-in.

What's the difference between mic and line level audio? ... Both mic and line level audio refer to the voltage level of an audio signal. Wired and wireless microphones are typically connected to mic-level inputs, while most other audio devices — such as mixers and outputs of mic preamps — use line level.

Phantom power is used with condenser microphones. ... Phantom power is a DC voltage (usually 12-48 volts) used to power the electronics of a condenser microphone. For some (non-electret) condensers it may also be used to provide the polarizing voltage for the element itself

Put simply, condenser microphones have active electronics that need an external power source, while dynamic mics are passive and therefore do not need phantom power. Because of the way condenser mics work, their output is very high impedance, and therefore requires a powered circuit to reduce that impedance.

Mic Level. Mic level is the voltage of signal generated by a microphone. This is the lowest, or weakest, level signal of the four and requires a preamplifier to bring it up to line level.

Problemas imaginarios

A ver, estaba a punto de escribir esto en mi face...

Y luego me dije... ¿Para qué?. Muchas personas compran esa moral de memes y filosofía de Facebook porque parece bonita, porque parece correcta y porque según todos se identifican con lo más bonito, lo más chingón. Porque es así como todos se ven. Don perfecto.

Pero ese no es el  punto, vengo porque leí que alguien preguntaba ¿Cuál es tu Toc? Que ahora que lo pienso pues ni siquiera explica el porque quiere saber.

En fin, en uno de los comentarios alguien menciona qué poner los ganchos vacíos de un lado del closet. Y yo me quedé preguntándome ¿desde cuándo ser ordenado es un TRANSTORNO?.

Y es que claro, entramos a los dominios de la percepción. Donde no sea una figura de "autoridad" que lo diga porque todos se la compran. Y luego se vuelve como estándar o hasta verdad científicamente aceptada. Y es que luego hasta se vuelven mitos. Que luego otros luchan por romperlos.

En fin. Se lo platiqué a Paprika y ella me explicó que, transtorno es si no puedes salir de tu casa hasta que los ganchos estén ordenados, en que si saliste de tu casa y en el trabajo estas pensando en si dejaste o no los ganchos en su lugar... eso tiene más sentido.

En fin. ¿Eso es andar buscando problemas? Tal vez no me guste a mí mismo... porque cuando me creo más listo es cuando más mal estoy... most of the time. 😋

In order to find our blue print we need to answer the question, what is life about? And what have to happen in order for that occur.

What people will do is very different of what people can do.

The road of someday bring you to the town of nowhere.

Everybody is driven by two forces;
1- The need to avoid pain
2- The desire to gain pleasure

So, the controlling force of our life, is what we link pain and what we link pleasure to.

Advertisers are aware of this, if we a are going to get people into take action, to use their power to buy things, we need to get them into associate pleasurable feelings to our product, or showing them how they can eliminate some pain that they already have by buying our product.

We will do more to avoid pain, that we will ever do to gain pleasure.

If you found yourself don't doing something, is just because you associate more pain doing it than not doing it.

Wherever change you want to happen, make sure you link it with a tons of pleasure.

Goal settings
We don't understand totally how it works, there's something beyond from what we understand of just writing something down, something happens. You become a creator when you write down goals and you get clear why you make them happen.

Purpose is stronger that outcome.

Don't get real, get intelligent. Because what is real to you today it's based on your past.

You got to get goals big enough to drive you, to excite you, so don't stop in how to do it, that is not the first step, the first step is get it down.

Establish goals two times a year. Check them every month and the highest goals, everyday.

And then I wake up,  everything seems fine everything seems okay and after a while everything is clean and it's like the memory renovate.
 I wonder if it's because I forgot everything or it just because I just don't want to think about it.
So, no wonder if this repeats.

Quizá son disyuntivas. Caminos a tomar entre polaridades.

Y el mundo insiste en que no hay extremos. Qué no solo es blanco y negro. Izquierda y derecha. Y yo no entiendo. Porque solo veo vida y muerte. Entre estar con ella o sin ella. Una hipodermica dentro o fuera. Verdad o mentira, sangre.

Y así se me van los días. Y aquí creo crear mi mundo. Y aquí me siento dentro de mi. A salvo. Y el mundo insiste en salir. Pero para mi salir es muerte, es dejar de ser. Es "cambiar a lo inmutable" ... Y me encuentro dentro de la inconsistencia de mis propios pensamientos. Me siento atrapado. Siento la necesidad de explicar lo entrecomillado. La muerte es inmutable, ella es infinita como la vida, existen y son inmutables. Pero yo soy transitorio y cambiar es dejar de ser, de existir. De salir de mi piel. Levitar.

Y luego no entiendo el lenguaje humano. Uno del que yo mismo utilizo para dejarme salir, aunque sea un poco por aquí. Entre lo complicado de las lenguas, los idiomas y las interpretaciones humanas. Me doy risa.

Me preocupo y me ocupo o no me importa nada. Porque al fin, soy transitorio.

La muerte es presente desde siempre. Es como querer vivir para siempre.

Entonces tengo que vivir explicando, y explicandome para explicar. Y se me acaba el aliento y mejor no digo nada. Muchas veces cuando lo intento ni siquiera escuchan. Las constantes interrupciones me lo hacen saber. El silencio se vuelve mi amigo y con ella la invisibilidad.

Me vuelvo super héroe y me dan ganas de volar. Pero hay quienes saben mi identidad, hay quienes me sujetan al piso y no salto por la ventana. Imagino cosas y de pronto esperan una respuesta de mi. Creo que querían ser escuchados y ahora me hacen preguntas que nunca escuché porque yo estaba preparándome a saltar por la ventana. Prefiero hacer otra pregunta. Se que quieren hablar más de ellos y no se dan cuenta que ni siquiera escucho. Se miran a si mismos.

La ojos y los sentidos transitorios.

Porqué?

Porque es divertido?. Es una respuesta sensata?

Por que... Es que quiero entender y la duda de tus propios pensamientos es cuando yo mismo me pregunto esa misma pregunta a mí. Esa es la verdadera duda. Porqué quiero saber?. Respondería para comprender. Y las preguntas podrían irse al infinito.

Entre es bueno hacerse de preguntas y entre ya se volvió fatigante.

Entre me vale madre y entre no haberme dado cuenta de lo que representa para otros. Hay un mundo de diferencia.

Entre incómodo e ignorante. Se le perdona solamente si tiene deficiencias mentales es lo que me dejan saber. Discrepo mentalmente, sin decir nada, volviéndome una vez más super héroe porque ya no escuchan.

Entre identidad y más preguntas. Entre el pasado y el futuro. Entre esta pantalla y la tuya... Entre todas las posibilidades.

Entre tu y yo... Aquí me encuentro.

This is the videos I did for Josin when she perform in Montreal, 2019. 

I was so grateful with her that she let me record this live show. I really appreciate this, and on top of that, she added me in her VIP guest list. And, to be honest, this was my first time to be in a VIP guest list. So the surprise, joy and the wonderful feeling that I experience was out of my normal life.

Idea creativa para Videoclip

IDEA CREATIVA PARA VIDEO CLIP

Tenemos un número X de objetos en la mesa de un café. En Dolly-in/Dolly-out y disparando a 60fps o 120 fps, el protagonista mira a la cámara cantando al espectador. Insertando b-roll con sub-historias de lo que ha pasado con esos X objetos. Al final del video, en Dolly-out, vemos que una chica aparece en el cuadro. La cámara permite ver sobre el hombro de la chica que se acerca a la mesa se sienta con él. No sabemos quién es pues sólo hemos visto su espalda. En videos posteriores será la protagonista. Al final del video la cámara se aleja en Dolly-out. (quizá hasta saliendo del café hasta la calle, dependiendo de la duración de la canción y si no Fade Out)

El número de elementos son la misma cantidad de canciones.

Cada elemento cuenta una historia.

Cada canción debe de estar ligada a uno de esos elementos.

Todos los elementos pueden formar parte de la portada del disco. O una foto a partir del protagonista en la mesa del café, asegurándonos de ver todos los elementos en la mesa del café que formarían parte de la idea visual en general.

La sub-historia b-roll es lo que ha pasado con esos 5 objetos. Es ahí donde los miembros de la banda pueden hacer su aparición; juntos en todas las canciones siguientes (quizá más simple) o cada miembro de la banda protagonizando un papel en la historia de cada objeto.

Videoclip 3er Ojo - Ideas

Esclavo
El despertar de alguien. Se levanta. Mira una foto. (Quizá la de América). Se lava la cara. Conduce por las calles. Recoge a los otros integrantes. Se van a echar la fiesta. (botanero/bar). En el solo la cámara sale del lugar y vemos al guitarrista tocando afuera del lugar. La chica entra a escena y se le queda mirando antes de entrar al lugar. Se miran y ella se acerca a él. Se quedan mirando fijamente y corte a negros.

Puente
En los alzónes de la música, vemos que el chico pierde un poco la realidad y vemos como de pronto esta en el zapoteco y cae. Vemos una escena que está en el suelo mirando al cielo... Lo que será el puente para el siguiente video (caminando)

Caminando
La chica va caminando por muchas partes, centro, bares, mercados, zapoteco... (antes de entrar a ese botanero/bar) Etc. Y cada vez que encuentra a alguien pone su oido en el pecho de las personas para escuchar el sonido de su corazón... Al final vemos qué encuentra a alguien... Se miran à los ojos.

Puente
Vemos como salen del botanero/bar. Afuera de éste ella lo detiene y se acerca al pecho del chico. Ella pone cara de alegría. Pero no sabemos que es lo que ella escuchó. Quizá el chico le habla con señales. Es decir la chica es sorda.

The girl on the old port

What is the story of a girl in old port eating an hamburger in the touristic place? Not a restaurant, just outside siting in a place? She is alone. Wearing this almost white hoodie with the hood on her. It's not a particular cold day. I could say even warm. But there she is. Eating this hamburger alone.

Triger my imagination. Triger questions like what she is doing there?

So I need to move one but I'm captivated by this image. I'm wondering what's going to happen. So I don't move and wait. For something to happens that tells me anything about that history. I like stories. 

I've been creating my own stories since I remember. Maybe this is the way I can tell myself who the world is. To act, to react. To feel. 

Who knows when the music goes. When the sound of the guitar is starting to appear like in fade in. 

The scene changes. Is it a friend who is arriving playing the guitar? or is just the sound of the videoclip. So the music starts and then cut into a sunset. Drone view of a lake of Ontario. The girl finish with her hamburger and stand up. She turn and then we see how she disappear from the frame. She walks to her right. Cut to the back of her walking. Slow motion. We can read the hoodie's text. It's from a parc where they where. From where the other story. 

Then we realize nothing has happened. That me I'm still looking at the girl who is eating. Someone is calling me. We don't hear the person but it's in the background and we can see how me I'm looking somewhere and the person is calling me. So I turn and I never know what happened with that girl on the old port of Montréal. A sunny Sunday at 3pm.
